Evida Power Ltd, designer and manufacturer of lithium-ion battery packs for electric vehicles (EVs), has opened its UK headquarters at the TechnoCentre on the Coventry University Technology Park campus in Coventry, West Midlands. Evida, whose parent company is US-registered, maintains design and production facilities in Shenzhen, China, and offices in Jerusalem, Israel.
Linear Technology has introduced a second generation high voltage battery monitor for hybrid/electric vehicle (HEVs), electric vehicles (EVs) and other high voltage, high performance battery systems. The LTC6803 is a complete battery measuring IC that includes a 12-bit ADC, a precision voltage reference, a high voltage input multiplexer and a serial interface.
Electric power and electronics are playing an ever-increasing role in all kinds of vehicles. Currently copper is the conductive material of choice. But in comparison to aluminium copper is heavy and expensive. In particular for fully electric vehicles the switch to the cheaper and lighter aluminium would be an interesting option. That is why the optimization of intricate power supply networks is now in the focus of engineering research. Scientists from the Technische Universitaet Muenchen (TUM), in collaboration with BMW engineers, have now found out what tricks make it possible to replace copper with aluminium.
The IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) and e8,a global organization of 10 world leading electricity companies, have brought together all major stakeholders that want to collaborate to accelerate the global roll-out of EVs (Electric Vehicles). The international round table took place on 19 January 2011 in Washington DC, USA, and represented a milestone in the future growth of these vehicles.
