February 11, 2011 // By Christoph Hammerschmidt
For engineers and mechanics in the automotive industry, for students, for professional training and development and for anyone with an interest in automotive technology, for generations the Bosch Automotive Manual has been an indispensable source of information and an important reference work. The new 27th edition of the classic text has been thoroughly revised and considerably extended.

In particular, the sections on hybrid drives and electric engines have been extended and updated. The chapters on combustion engines, chassis technology and networking with bus systems have been completely revised. Around 160 specialist authors from the development departments at Bosch and throughout the automotive industry, as well as experts from universities, contributed specialist articles showing off their detailed first-hand knowledge for the new edition.

The Automotive Handbook, considered by many readers worldwide as the as the standard work in automotive technology, provides an overview of all automotive knowledge. While the first edition back in 1932 required only 96 pages to cover the key information about the automotive technology of its day, the new edition has 1,297 pages. Since then, automotive technology has developed into a highly complex discipline, and the latest Automotive Handbook provides you with a reliable guide.

For the 27th edition, the structure has been revised and the chapters are now structured to make things easier for readers new to the specific subject area. Comprehensive keyword and abbreviation indexes make it easier to find specific topics. At the same time, the needs of automotive engineering students have been taken into account. References at the end of each chapter outline sources for further in-depth study. With the involvement of Professor Dr.-Ing. Konrad Reif, Course Leader in Automotive Electronics and Mechatronic Systems at the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University in Ravensburg, the editors of the Bosch Automotive Handbook were supported by an academic advisor for the first time.

The 27th edition is now available in German language; the English version will follow in the spring.

The German language version of the Bosch Automotive Handbook is available from bookshops, ISBN number 978-3-8348-1440-1, at a price of 39.90 Euro.
