Design win: Continental picks Cypress for next-gen body platform

Automotive electronics supplier Continental AG has selected the Traveo II microcontrollers from Cypress for the next generation of its body control units. These units control a wide range of comfort and connectivity functions in passenger cars, including door, window and sunroof controls, wireless power charging, seat position adjustment and smartphone terminals.

Based on the ARM Cortex M7 architecture, the Traveo family of microcontrollers is designed for automotive use. Originally, these chips were developed by Fujitsu, but later Spansion acquired the product line. Spansion later was acquired by Cycpress. According to Cypress, Continental chose the Traveo II family for their performance and scalability, along with low power consumption and the security features required for future automotive electronics platforms.

The multicore Traveo II family comes with up to 8MB of embedded flash that helps the devices deliver the robust performance required for demanding body electronics applications. Featuring advanced peripherals, including support for the CAN-FD, Ethernet and FlexRay communication protocols, Traveo II MCUs offer scalability and pin-compatibility from the low-end to the high-end. The MCUs are backed by AUTOSAR (AUTomotive Open System ARchitecture) 4.2 software. The Traveo II product family will begin sampling in 2H2017.
