Reference platform enhances Bluetooth infotainment options

Open Synergy's Blue SDK (v4.3) for the CE4A Bluetooth Reference Platform is now available. This platform integrates Blue SDK with a variety of automotive-relevant profiles. Thanks to the update, it is now possible to display the album cover of the current track and download and browse calendar entries, to-do lists, and notes. In addition, support for missed calls has been improved. CE4A has adopted all new features provided by the update.

Since 2009, device manufacturers have been able to use the reference platform to test the Bluetooth features in their products, ensuring conformity with the automotive industry requirements. The integrated Bluetooth stack with its wide range of features and the profiles with all mandatory and optional features of the Bluetooth specification enable manufacturers to implement each of the many test scenarios that they require to be able to install Bluetooth applications in car kits and infotainment systems. To do so, CE4A uses the Hands-free (HFP), Phone Book Access (PBAP), Message Access (MAP), Audio Video Remote Control (AVRCP), SIM Access (SAP), and Personal Area Networking (PAN) profiles. The new release also includes updates to other profiles, as well as adds new ones:

  • AudioVideo SDK v3.0 – with AVRCP 1.6 and support for AVRCP Cover Art, enabling users to browse and display metadata, such as the album cover of the current track.
  • CTN SDK 1.0 – implementation of the Bluetooth calendar, tasks, notes profile for v1.0, enabling users to download and browse calendar entries, to-do lists, and notes. Now the corresponding smartphone features will be available in Bluetooth-enabled vehicles as well.
  • PBAP SDK v2.0 – provides support for the latest upgrades to the PBAP 1.2 specification and vCard features for filtering and improves support for missed calls.
  • MAP SDK v2.0 – provides support for the latest upgrades to the MAP 1.2 specification.

CE4A (Consumer Electronics for Automotive), a working group of automobile OEMs promoting the standardization of mobile device interfaces, is working to make future vehicles be compatible with, and enjoy, many new features of consumer electronics devices. Mobile device and automobile manufacturers will thus be able to ensure that smartphones and other devices can readily interact with the technology in vehicles.
