Test tool makes V2X developers more productive

dSpace has complemented its of Vehicle-to-X (V2X) development tool with a new component that enables users to access V2X communications based on the IEEE 802.1p protocol. Closely integrated into the Simulink environment, the add-on enables the graphical analysis of V2X relevant data in dSpace’s ControlDesk Next Generation development environment. With these capabilities, the tool reduces the workload for development engineers.

The new V2X Blockset for Simulink is a central component of the V2X Solution, which provides easy access to V2X communication during model-in-the-loop (MIL) simulation, rapid control prototyping (RCP) as well as software-in-the-loop (SIL) and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation. In only a few steps, engineers can connect their applications directly to the appropriate communication blocks via signal vectors to access all or previously selected V2X message contents. Protocols and software layers that enable communication with other V2X participants according to the European V2X standard are included in the solution. These layers comprise functionality for encoding and decoding V2X messages, and also the Ethernet (UDP/IP) communication interface to a V2X hardware adapter, such as the MK5-OBU Onboard-Unit from Cohda Wireless. The direct access to V2X signals within the Simulink model simplifies the data manipulation necessary for robustness tests.

In addition to V2X-specific blocks, the V2X Solution offers dedicated blocks for position and time data by encoding and decoding Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) data according to the National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) 0183 standard.

The V2X Solution extends dSpace ControlDesk with a dedicated map instrument, which is continuously updated with new information from the V2X Blockset for easy data analysis and plausibility checks. The map instrument displays contents that are available to V2X applications, such as a vehicle’s position, velocity, driving direction, and classification of individual traffic participants as well as other V2X-specific information.
