Two-channel optocoupler for automotive bi-directional communications

The R2Coupler ACFL-x21xT is a new family of optocouplers that are designed for deployment in automotive environments. Both the ACFL-521xT as well as the ACFL621xT are qualified according to automotive standard AEC-Q100 Grade 1. The model 521 is optimised for low-power systems and supports data rates up to 1 MBd while the model 621 aims at high-performance systems with data rates up to 15 MBd.

As an extension to earlier R2Coupler models ACPL-KxxT, the new devices feature two optocoupler channels that are adjusted internally at an angle of 180 degrees. Thus they offer the best pin assignment for PCB layouts in bidirectional Tx/Rx data exchange circuits. In addition, both channels are completely decoupled and galvanically insulated, offering an ideal bidirectional communications interface for power systems. What’s more, the systems also feature a clearance and creepage distance of 8 mm, a high dielectric breakdown voltage (VISO) up to 5.000 VRMS for at least 1 minute as well as a high constant operating voltage up to 1.140 VPEAK. The coptocouplers come in a compact SSO-12 package which offers comparable dimensions as the SSO-8 package of earlier component generations.

With an operating temperature range from -40°C to +125°C the optocouplers are ideal for deployment in the engine compartment; the application voltage of 1000V makes them suitable for electric powertrain applications.
